Engage in fun, positive activities with children
Practicing positive childhood experiences (PCEs) helps children grow into healthy and resilience adults. Incorporating the Four Building Blocks of HOPE into your life and work can be as easy as rolling dice!
We are excited to share a new game, “Creating Moments of HOPE Building Block Game,” created by HOPE Champion Royale Lockhart from the Center on Disability and Human Development at the University of Idaho. She works on the IdahoStars project. This game provides four dice, one for each Building Block – relationships, engagement, environment, and emotional growth. Each die includes 5 PCEs practices themed around a Building Block of HOPE.
To play the game, cut out each Building Block die and fold it to make a cube. You can also tape it around a die or any cube object that you already own. Choose which Building Block of HOPE you would like to practice and roll the respective die to find out what experience chooses you! You can also create custom dice with PCEs practices that uniquely fit your children or community.
Creating intentional spaces for positive childhood experiences
Positive childhood experiences provide opportunities for children to feel safe, feel heard, be a part of something bigger than themselves, and much more. Some Building Blocks of HOPE come more naturally to us in our day-to-day lives. We fulfill them without realizing it. Other Building Blocks, however, can be more difficult to access, depending on the resources available in our community.
This dice game helps make practicing PCEs more intentional and fun for you and the children around you. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or anyone who interacts with children, this game is for you! Please share your experiences playing the game.
