Incorporating HOPE during a substance use screening
These simulation videos present two different screenings between a physician and a teenager patient. One video shows the provider using the HOPE framework when speaking to the patient. The other video presents a similar conversation, but the home visitor does not use HOPE. The videos are intentionally dramatized to more obviously show the difference when using HOPE. In the third video, the actress who played the part of the patient reflects on what these two approaches felt like to her.
We recommend watching the “Without HOPE” video before moving on to the “With HOPE” video. As you watch these two videos. take note of the differences you see between the two screenings.
