Incorporating HOPE during a IEP meeting

These simulation videos present two different deliveries of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting between a parent, their child, and the school staff. One video shows the school staff using the HOPE framework when speaking to the parent and child. The other video presents a similar conversation, but the school staff does not use HOPE. The videos are intentionally dramatized to more obviously show the difference when using HOPE.

We recommend watching the “Without HOPE” video before moving on to the “With HOPE” video. As you watch these two videos. take note of the differences you see between the two meetings.

In the videos, the parent is played by Allison Stephens, former Director of Networks and Policy. The child is played by her son, TJ. The school staff are played by members of the HOPE team.
